Malt, produced from barley by the maltster, is the basic raw-material of brewing. We use several types at Facer's brewery; Pale Ale malt is a basic malt from which we get most of the malt flavour and the sugars for the yeast to ferment into alcohol. 

Crystal malt is darker and tastes like Shreddies, Chocolate malt is highly roasted and very dark and tastes like burnt toast, while Torrified wheat (made , as the name suggests, from wheat rather than barley) tastes like Sugar Puffs and is another good source of fermentable sugar.
